I have to admit, what ultimately made me look at the previews and buy Anya’s Ghost was the high praise it received from one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman. I can understand why it might have appealed to him: Just a couple of dozen pages into the book, the story unfolds in a way that has some strong Coraline vibes, in that “be-careful-what-you-wish-for”-sense. At the same time, the story retains the charme of a fairy-tale and makes some plain but wise statements about life – again reminiscent of Gaiman’s work for young(er) readers.
However, “Anya’s Ghost” is much more and can stand on its own feet: Besides being delightfully spooky and full of a very convincing attitude towards “teenage angst”, it is also hilarious and full of extremely likeable characters, especially Anya herself and of course her Syrniki-frying mother. A tale of ghosts, friendship and, well, just life, that made me smile while reading, and long afterwards.
I hope this book will still be around when I have kids of Anya’s age.

Da meine Küche so alt war wie ich (und der Herd noch 5 Jahre älter) habe ich beschlossen, mal etwas sinnvoller Geld zu investieren. Meine Küche ist zwar verdammt klein, aber immerhin hab ich noch ein paar Zentimeter Extra-Arbeitsplatte herausplanen können.

Vor langer langer Zeit war mein Arbeits- und Esszimmer mal ein Wohnzimmer und mein Wohnzimmer ein Esszimmer. Aus logistischen Gründen war ersteres dann eine Weile garnix und letzteres mein Wohnzimmer. Dann wurde aus dem garnix plötzlich ein Arbeitszimmer und später kam eine Essecke hinzu. Und es ward ganz vergessen, dass man die Räume auch umgekehrt nutzen könnte… bis gestern. Was in Sachen Fernseher aufstellen eh viel mehr Sinn ergibt… und außerdem wollte ich einen neuen Schreibtisch. Expedit ist toll. Das gestern erstmal was komplett anderes eingekauft wurde was überhaupt nicht geklappt hat vergessen wir einfach mal.
